Men are notoriously difficult to buy presents for, so we asked our experts to choose a selection of perfect gifts suitable for any gentleman.
We feel the guide has all bases covered with an array of different watches for any taste.
The 12.12 collection uses inspiration from the infamous polo shirt with a silicone pique strap. This year the French heritage brand have taken a step into the wearable technology market and have nailed an affordable, fashionable and useful time-piece. The watch comes complete with mobile phone compatibility with the display shows you who’s calling. Any notifications are pushed to your wrist, the world clock gives you six global locations via the app and activity tracking keeps you on your toes. A perfect gift for the man on the move.
Storm London put quality materials and unique design as the pillar for the design process and the outcome is always stunning wristwear. We’re not sure where the inspiration for the names of Storm pieces originate but we can only assume the ‘Kray’ was not inspired by the frightening East London gangsters, quite the opposite in fact as the smooth lazer blue glass and brushed stainless steel bracelet make for one of the most charming inviting men’s watches we’ve seen. Storm only ever use Swiss or Japanese movements known to be the best quality in the world. A quality piece of British design at £109.99.
Accurist have been making quality timepieces since 1948 and have expertly altered their classic designs subtly to match current trends. We’re a big fan of the “blacked out” colour scheme and this gun metal plated stainless steel watch stands out from the collection for all the right reasons. The masculine colour, textured grey dial, day /date function and 100 metres water resistance are all the ingredients for a manly yet stylish masterpiece. This is one of the true versatile styles that would work as well with a suit as a pair of jeans. At £85.00 this is a solid gift idea.
The Casio G-Shock range has become the go to durable watch, one of the few men’s watches on the market that is designed to be put through the elements and it’s unsurprising that military forces around the world often rely on the technology. The “Mudmaster” series has all the usual fundamentals of a G-Shock but is geared specifically keep rubble, dirt, dust and debris out of the watch.
A cylindrical guard structure is adopted for all the buttons, and the cylindrical button shafts are fitted with gasket linings. Barometer / Thermometer, Altimeter, Digital Compass, Double LED lighting, Carbon fibre second hand and vibration resistant structure are some of the features that make this the complete heavy wearing functional watch. Perfect present for any man that will be exposed to the elements.
Henry London has been one of our favourite new brands. Complete with a charming back story of a vintage watch from 1965 found in an antiques shop in Portobello market providing inspiration for the collection. The Knightsbridge embodies the charm of the original watch with a high domed lens accentuating the curves of the midnight blue opaline domed dial. The self adjusting milanese bracelet sits perfectly with the contours of the wrist. A vintage inspired watch that a man of any age would appreciate it.
For those that don’t know Pulsar is the sister brand of Seiko and uses the same innovative approach to their men’s watches along with all the precision and quality you’d expect from Japanese production. This model is Kinetically charged by the movement of the wearers body – impressive technology for a reduced price of £75! We love the contrast yellow second hand on the black dial and also the practical day / date calendar.
Storm have done it again, a more traditional approach to wristwear by their standard. The dual time function gives the timepiece a sporty look and Storm’s usual attention to detail makes it stand out from the wearers wrist. The case and bracelet are made from a hard-wearing brushed metal and we think it suits the silver dial on this model perfectly. Includes a date at the 6 o’clock marker, a subtle light blue tip on the second hand and is also 100 metres water resistant.
This is Sekonda’s featured model and has been appearing across the TV channels in recent weeks. Easy to see why this model was selected, the midnight navy and chronograph dial is sophistication personified. A Rose Gold two tone colourway is always a winner, merging the line between casual and formal effortlessly. A perfect watch for the party season.
Ice are known for their fun colourful options, which is why we were pleasantly surprised by the Carbon range. A more masculine and tough look complete with a carbon composite case for extra strength. The black and red tones blend faultlessly with the trademark carbon stylishness of the dial. All Ice watches come as 100 metre water resistant and ready to wear for any occasion.
This has been a sweeping favourite amongst our experts, the Lacoste Moon collection is ultra slim and chic. The thin case sits comfortably on the wrist and with a high quality leather strap. We love the minimalist approach and think the silver and black colour scheme is the pick of the bunch but also find the brown leather / Rose Gold option for something less understated. A timeless classic in a modern styling by a heritage fashion brand – what’s not to love?
